1. If you connected an Instagram account to OwlHook
Step 1: Remove OwlHook's access in Meta's settings
In the Business Settings of the business portfolio that connected OwlHook, open Integrations → Connected apps, choose OwlHook and remove it. You need to be an admin of that portfolio.
Meta may label these screens slightly differently. Once access is removed, OwlHook can no longer read or act on your accounts, and your automations stop.
Step 2: Ask us to delete the data we already hold
Email hello@owlhook.com from the email address on your OwlHook account, with:
- your business name;
- the Instagram account or accounts you connected; and
- whether you also want your OwlHook account closed.
If we can't match the request to your account, we'll ask you to confirm it. Within 30 days we delete:
- the access tokens Meta gave us;
- the comments, messages and other Instagram data we hold for your accounts;
- your automations and settings; and
- if you asked us to close it, your OwlHook account.
We then email you a confirmation with a reference number.
2. If you commented on or messaged a business that uses OwlHook
- To stop automated messages: reply STOP in the conversation. That business's automations won't message you again unless you reply START.
- To remove a message: if you unsend it on Instagram, OwlHook removes its text from our database; copies in short-term storage and backups are deleted on the schedule in our Privacy Policy.
- To delete your data: ask the business that runs the Instagram account, since it controls your data. Or email hello@owlhook.com with your Instagram username and the Instagram account of the business. We may ask for information to confirm the request is yours.
Within 30 days of confirming your request, we delete the comments, messages and other data we hold about you for that business, tell the business, and confirm to you. We keep only your Instagram-scoped ID on that business's do-not-message list, so its automations never message you again.
3. What we may keep
- Invoices and billing records, for as long as Indian tax law requires.
- A record of your request: the date, the reference number and what we deleted.
- Short-term copies of Instagram webhooks in Cloudflare R2, for up to 30 days, and data in encrypted backups, for up to 30 days until those backups expire. We don't restore deleted data except to recover from an incident.
- Anything else the law requires us to keep, only for as long as it requires.
4. Questions
Our Privacy Policy explains what we hold and for how long. For questions or complaints about deletion, contact Abhay Choudhary, our Grievance Officer, at hello@owlhook.com, or see our Contact page.
